Prior to the scan : Inform your radiologist if you have any allergies, particularly to contrast materials, if applicable for your procedure. Also, let your doctor know if you have a history of kidney disease or diabetes, and whether there's a possibility you might be pregnant.

Fasting : Depending on whether a contrast dye is used or not, you may be asked to fast for a few hours before your scan.

Medication : Continue taking your regular medications unless told otherwise by your doctor.

Clothing : Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You may be required to wear a gown during the procedure. Remove any metal objects, including jewelry, eyeglasses, dentures, and hairpins, which can affect CT images.

During the scan : You'll need to lie still on the scanner table as movement can blur the images. The table will move slowly through the CT scanner to capture images. You may be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds to avoid any movement of your head during imaging.

After the scan : If a contrast material was used during your scan, you might be monitored for a period for any side effects or reactions. Drink plenty of fluids to help your kidneys remove the contrast dye from your body.
